Bohnenberger's work consciously opposes any kind of naturalism and therefore does not adopt the journalistic slum exoticism of the mass media. Nor are his impressions suitable for publication in National Geographic or Better Homes and Gardens since they do not emphasize the typical or typically beautiful in things foreign but rather that which stands out as peculiar in the normal state of things in foreign lands. Undoubtedly, Stefan Bohnenberger is a conceptualist, albeit an openly improvising one.
