Ursula Wevers (*1943) has been working intensively with film, video and photography since the late 1960s. In addition to her artistic work, she was also active for more than 30 years as a professor, first at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf and later at the University of Wuppertal. Ursula Wevers’ comprehensive oeuvre, which is represented in the exhibition by approximately 40 works, lies somewhere between the genres of photography and film. Her photographic works are often characterized by cinematic considerations, whereas her work in film is clearly influenced by photography. Wevers’ works oscillate between reality and imagination. The poetic motifs, created by the melting together of various photographic moments, transport the viewer to somnambulistic settings. The artist’s video works are also characterized by a meditative atmosphere; the motion sequences shot in real time appear decelerated and thus encourage a more intensive perception and analysis.
